Poem: Triggers

TRIGGERS

Triggers

A movie scene
a clap of thunder
a child’s cry
a lover’s touch

so many things
can catapult us
backward in time

there’s never any warning

we are simply thrust
into remembering,
into reliving an experience
we thought was over for good.

Trapped in hell
we come face to face
with our demons.

We try to out-run them
but they are swift.
They are strong.
They are determined.

But there is hope.

Each time they confront us
we get stronger, more resolved
not to let them destroy us.

Each time they challenge us
we get quicker, smarter
we learn how to climb out of hell.

There will come a day
when demons of the past
will be but a whisper in the trees.

We will notice them.
We will recognize them.
We will send them on their way
with a gentle wave of a knowing hand.

    1. Thanks! I ordered If I Could Tell You How It Feels, but it hasn’t arrived yet. If you would be willing, I would love to share some of your poetry on my site. Anything to do with trauma, healing, strength, hope… You could email them to me at iwalkwithalimp@gmail.com, or I could take some from your book. If you email them, please put that they’re poems from you in the subject line. I’m so glad we’ve connected! I’d include hearts, but I don’t know how. 🙂 Many Blessings to you.

      1. Thank you for ordering the new book. Im filled with gratitude and really humbled. Im so happy we’ve connected.
As far as the poems…I think that poetry is so very personal. What moves me may move you very differently. So, feel free to share something that you really connect with when you read the book. I’ll be curious to see which ones they are. I love hearing what people think and feel when they read a poem. No matter who the author is. Be well my friend and have a good rest of your weekend. Since I live in MN and the superbowl is here, we are kind of geared up for watching it tomorrow (on TV) That will be a good time for me to catch up on reading blogs. 🤣
Blessings and love to you! ❤️
